Historic Mining Town
Within the Vail Valley, Minturn is known as a friendly town that overflows with historic character. The arrival of the Denver Rio Grande railroad in 1887 transformed Minturn from a small ranching settlement into a bustling railroad and mining town. As the mining industry began to wane in the 1960’s and 70’s the development of Vail Resort enabled Minturn to emerge as a thriving mountain community offering the finest in outdoor recreation.
Ideally situated with Vail to the east, Beaver Creek to the west and the breathtaking Holy Cross Wilderness area to the south, our town is at the heart of your dream vacation. Escape into nature on numerous hiking, biking, snowshoeing and equestrian trails. Discover the adventure of back country jeeping or white water rafting. And of course, some of the world’s very best alpine skiing is found right outside our back door at Vail and Beaver Creek Resorts.
A stroll down Main Street reveals small town charm reminiscent of the Old West. You’re always welcome at The Saloon where Doc Holiday, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood have imbibed. Enjoy shopping at a variety of antique shops, specialty stores and galleries. Be sure to stop for lunch or dinner at one of the fine restaurants located throughout the historic downtown.
Whether your ideal vacation consists of snuggling up by the fire with a good book, meandering through an alpine meadow filled with wildflowers, or skiing on the famous Minturn Mile backcountry trail, your stay in Minturn is guaranteed to be one-of-a-kind.
